Published original research analyzing SPF configuration errors across 1,247 domains checked through InboxGreen between May and July 2026.

• Analyzed 1,247 unique domains for SPF problems. 32.1% had at least one issue.
• Softfail (~all instead of -all) was the most common problem, affecting 23.2% of all domains and 72.2% of domains with any SPF issue.
• 61% of domains with softfail SPF also had DMARC set to p=none or missing, making both checks ineffective together.
• 2.7% of domains hit the 10-lookup PermError limit. Average was 14.3 lookups; 71% of PermError cases included four or more ESP includes.
